In any place where flammable or combustible materials are processed or stored there is always some possibility of an explosive atmosphere in conjunction with the oxygen present in air. This is true for vapors, gases, dusts and mists and the propensity of electrical energy to create hot or sparking surfaces present a possibility that the explosive atmospheres may be ignited with resultant explosion or fire. This hazard has been recognized for many years and the precautions has been taken to overcome this problem.
