The present book has been written to be used for the course on internal combustion engines. The material needed for basic understanding of the engines is provided inside. The one starting the course is assumed to have some basic knowledge of fundamental thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer in order to get maximum benefit from this text. It may also be used as a reference book or for self-study purpose. The major emphasis is made on reciprocating engines. Both compression ignition and spark ignition engines are covered, as those operating on two-stroke and four-stroke cycles.
